Arab League chief denies talks with officials, parties to run for presidency

The Egyptian Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi conclusively denied on Saturday the claims that reported he has negotiated with official bodies and political parties on his running for the Egyptian upcoming presidential elections, Xinhua quoted the official MENA news agency.

Arabi also rejected the foreign intervention in this matter which is considered the core of Egypt's sovereignty, confirming that only the Egyptians who should determine their future through fair and integral elections, MENA added.

He also said the new constitution should be drafted before holding the presidential elections to frame the measures and the system of choosing the president and knowing the powers authorized to the elected president.

Certain Egyptian newspapers had published that there was an agreement among the Muslim Brotherhood, and the generals from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces beside the liberal movements to choose Arabi for running for the presidential elections.
