UN Security Council members on Wednesday congratulated Yemenis for the "overall peaceful manner" in which they turned out to vote for a new government, DPA reported.
Council members said in a statement that they encourage "all stakeholders" in Yemen to work together with strong international support to implement the agreed mechanisms to achieve unity and security in the country.
Former president Ali Abdullah Saleh's ruling party and the opposition last year signed a UN-sponsored agreement under which Saleh ceded power to his deputy, Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi, and received immunity from prosecution after a 33-year reign.
Hadi was the only candidate in Tuesday's elections, the results of which will be released Friday.
