Tunisian president Moncef Marzouki said Friday that a political solution that gives Syrian President Bashar al-Assad a safe exit from power is the best way to end the crisis in the country, dpa reported.
"For those who say it is unjust solution, we say it is against justice, but we believe the lives of thousands of Syrians is more important than this justice," Marzouki told the opening session of the Friends of Syria conference.
Marzouki said a power transfer deal, similar to the one implemented in Yemen that gave outgoing president Ali Abdullah Saleh immunity against prosecution, is the best way to end the bloodshed in Syria.
"To be real friends for Syria, we should do everything we can to alleviate the suffering of Syrian people," he said.
