The United Nations Security Council issued a statement Wednesday supporting Kofi Annan, the UN-Arab League envoy for Syria, DPA reported.
Annan had asked for Security Council support for his diplomatic efforts to end the violence in Syria, where the UN estimates that more than 8,000 people have died since March 2011.
The statement supported Annan's six-point plan presented to Damascus, which aims to end the conflict in Syria.
