Political settlement of Syrian crisis inevitable: Oman newspaper

The Syrian issue will ultimately be resolved by political means as efforts by Russia and China in this regard have begun to show effects, Oman newspaper Al-Watan has said in an article. on Wednesday.

The article, titled "A Political Solution Is Inevitable" and published Wednesday, said internal conflicts have aggravated the situation in Syria and inflicted a heavy toll on innocent civilians, whose daily lives have been made miserable due to tightening sanctions by Western powers, Xinhua reported.

The idea of resorting to the use of force or a violent "revolution" to solve the Syrian crisis is gradually losing its market, while the international community is becoming increasingly positive that the Syrian issue can be resolved by political means, and favorable conditions should be created to bring all sides in Syria together for a dialogue, the article said.

The article noted that the Chinese government has made clear its stance on the Syrian issue and that Russia and the Arab League (AL) have reached a five-point formula on Syria in their meeting in Cairo. Moreover, the UN-AL joint special envoy on Syria Kofi Annan also put forward a six-point proposal on ending the Syrian crisis.

All these factors have laid a solid foundation for a national dialogue in Syria, the article said, adding that it is a moral obligation for all parties in Syria and the international community to stop violence and start a conversation so as to end the crisis.
