Syrian President wife Asma al-Assad cannot be stopped from travelling to Britain, but under current circumstances she is unlikely to make the trip, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Friday.

"Of course, British nationals have a right of entry to the United Kingdom. But given that we are imposing an asset freeze on all of these individuals and travel bans on other members of the (al-)Assad family, we are not expecting Mrs (al-)Assad to try to travel to the United Kingdom at the moment," Hague said, dpa reported.

He was speaking after an EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels approved fresh sanctions that are expected to prevent Asma al-Assad from travelling anywhere else in the bloc.
