UAE recalls ambassador from Tehran because of conflict over Abu Musa Island

The government of the United Arab Emirates recalled its ambassador from Tehran for consultations after a visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to disputed island of Abu Musa, Al-Jazeera TV channel said on Thursday.

President Ahmadinejad's visit to the island of Abu Musa caused outrage of the UAE government. Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a statement that the visit of Iranian President was made at a time when the two countries came to an agreement through joint efforts to resolve this problem.

The islands of Abu Musa, Greater and Lesser Tunb are the subject of the dispute between Iran and the UAE.
