Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Yunus Demirer was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, Al Arabiya television channel reported quoting the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
Head of Iraq's Office of Foreign Relations Walid Hamid Shaltag received the Ambassador and expressed dissatisfaction of the Iraqi side with certain actions of Turkish consuls in the cities of Mosul and Basra.
Shaltag noted that the Turkish consuls have taken some steps that go beyond their powers.
Relations between Turkey and Iraq are extremely tense in recent months. It was caused by the speech of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who criticized the Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki for an authoritarian, according to Erdogan, management style and provocation of strife between Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds in the country.
In response, al-Maliki said Turkey has turned into "a country with hostile tendencies in the region" because of the actions of its prime minister.
