Special rep: UN has no plans to send peacekeepers to Syria
Special Representative of the UN and the Arab League on the Syrian Crisis Lakhdar Brahimi has assured that the UN has no plans to send peacekeepers to the country, RIA Novosti reported.
"At present, there are no plans to send the peacekeeping mission," Brahimi said after the talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.
According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is nearing 30,000.
More than 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
