Qatar's prime minister on Sunday blamed the divided UN Security Council for failing to stop the Syria conflict, warning it will turn the Middle East into "a volcano of war and turmoil", dpa reported.
"We consider the UN Security Council directly responsible for the continuing tragedy of the Syrian people, thousands of lives that were lost and the blood that was spilled and is still flowing at the hands of the regime's forces," Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim told the Munich Security Conference.
The premier warned the world community of the risk that "prolongation of the Syrian crisis through hesitation and procrastination to achieve narrow self interests will turn the entire Middle East region into a volcano of war and turmoil."
He also condemned Israel's airstrikes last week inside Syria: "I must also point out that Israel's bombing of Syrian targets ... is likely to add fuel to the fire, delay the chances of a solution and even expand the conflict to the entire region."
