Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's health condition is improving and he is closely following up the situation in the country, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said Saturday, state-run TV reported.

Bouteflika, 76, suffered a transient ischemic attack last month and is currently hospitalized in Paris, Xinhua reported.

"The president is doing very well, and he is following up day by day the issues of national interest," Sellal said.

"His doctors required him to take more rest, and his health is improving," he added.

The veteran president's minor stroke triggered debate in the country's political arena, as some radical opponents have urged to organize anticipated election to elect a new president.
