Azerbaijan, Baku, July 3 / Trend R.Hafizoglu /
Hezbollah is the cause of inter-confessional clashes in Syria, the former head of the organization Subhi al-Tufayli said, Al Jazeera channel reported on Wednesday.
According to him, Hezbollah's participation in military operations against the armed opposition in Syria will lead to the fact that the conflict will get a lager scope, becoming a Sunni-Shia conflict.
Earlier, the leader of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah declared his intention to continue to support the Syrian authorities in the fight against the rebels. Immediately after that, the Syrian opposition members fired at Shiite neighborhoods of Beirut, and promised to strike at other targets in Lebanon.
Free Syrian Army threatens to move the fighting into Lebanon's territory in response to armed clashes with Hezbollah militants in the Syrian town of Al-Qusayr.
According to the report, the Syrian rebels demanded the Government of Lebanon to put an end to Hezbollah's activity in the battles against the opposition.
The clashes between government forces and the armed opposition in Syria have been continuing for more than two years.
According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 70,000 people, and nearly three million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say that they are opposed by well-armed militants.
The Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said that Hezbollah is a Lebanese resistance group, and it has nothing to do with the fighting in Syria.
