Egyptian presidential aide denies ElBaradei named premier

An aide to Egypt's interim president has denied reports that opposition leader has been officially named the country's new prime minister, dpa reported.

"No person has been officially asked to form the new government," Ahmed al-Muslemani, a presidential advisor on media, told reporters. He also denied reports that interim President Adli Mansour dropped ElBaradei as a choice for the post due to alleged opposition from Islamists.

"The presidency has not backed down because ElBaradei was not asked to form the government in the first place," al-Muslemani said.

The state Middle East News Agency had earlier reported that Mansour had charged ElBaradei with forming a government.
