Militants attacked two checkpoints in the Sinai Penninsula with five Egyptian soldiers killed in the assault Saturday, Sputnik reported.
The group affiliated with ISIL posted the report on the attack on social media.
Earlier, the soldiers' deaths were confirmed by the official MENA news agency.
The Egyptian military claim 20 militants killed in an assault on a jihadist base in North Sinai the same day. The message was posted on the Facebook page of The Egyptian Armed Forces spokesman, illustrated with videos of air strikes.
