Israeli troops opened fire Monday on a military base in southern Lebanon, prompting retaliatory fire, a Lebanese security source said dpa reported
An Israeli patrol shot at a base in the Wazzani border area, the source said. The exchange of fire continued for several minutes, Lebanese radio stations said.
There was no immediate word on casualties.
The incident led to a state of alert among the Lebanese army.
