Paris expects that the February 14 summit of the Astana Format summit in Sochi, in which presidents of Russia, Iran and Turkey will take part, will produce a positive result for the Syrian settlement, French Ambassador to Russia Sylvie Bermann told TASS in an interview, Trend reports referring to TASS.
"We hope that the results will be positive," the diplomat said.
"As it is known, our President Emmanuel Macron took part in meeting [with the Astana trio] in Istanbul in late October 2018. We expect progress to be achieved on the basis of the Istanbul summit statement [which supports settlement in Syria on the basis of UN Security Council resolution 2254]."
Bermann also hopes that a Syrian constitutional committee will eventually be formed, paving the way for political settlement of the crisis in the country.
