Israel, Jerusalem// corr. Trend R. Abdullayayev/ The Prime Minister of Israel met with Angela Merkel, the chancellor of Germany on 11 February. The Israeli leader attempted to gain the support of the German Government to hold a large-scale anti-terror operation in Gaza, NEWSRU reports.

The European Union has been showing less support for the Israeli policy concerning Gaza recently. The Israeli Government obsessed with the idea of holding operations to put an end to the rockets fired to West Negava, believes that it is important to hold a campaign in Europe to tell the European countries, starting with Germany, of the aim of the operations, Ynet said.

Ehud Olmert informed Merkel of the situation in the regions surrounding Gaza and said that no sovereign country can put up with this rocket fire.

It is worth mentioning that Olmert said in his speech in Berlin Museum that the Israeli militants are permitted to hold operations to protect the civilians from the rocket fire, France Press said.

In addition to the possible operations in Gaza Ehud Olmert and Merkel also discussed the nuclear program of Iran. It is worth mentioning that Merkel supports the third package of the sanctions against Tehran. They also discussed the fate of the kidnapped Israeli soldiers.

Germany acts as a mediator between Israel and Lebanese and Palestinian terrorists.
