US talks of compromises with Israel

Israel Materials 30 June 2009 11:00 (UTC +04:00)

The Obama administration has hinted at Washington's support for Tel Aviv at the UN, despite an apparent rift with Israel over the Palestinian question, reported Press TV.

"There is ongoing dialogue between the delegations, between the ambassadors. Today there is also a very good dialogue between me and [US] Ambassador [Susan] Rice, who is a confidante of President Obama," Israeli UN ambassador, Gabriela Shalev, told Israel's Channel Ten television.

Shalev comments came after the State Department hinted that the US was willing to make concessions to Israel in the future.

"Working out the way to our resolution, I'm not going to say we're not going to compromise; we'll see what happens," said State Department Spokesman Ian Kelly.

This is while, the US president Barack Obama had earlier claimed that he was steadfast in his calls on Israel to halt settlement activities in the occupied territories and agree to the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state.

Despite calls - including one by the Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal - on the US to cut off its aid to Israel in a bid to pressure Tel Aviv into making peace with the Palestinians, Washington is now hinting at making compromises.
