Turkey makes protest to Israel due to Ehud Barak’s statement

Israel's Ambassador to Ankara Gaby Levy today was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry to clarify recent statements by Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak against the Adviser to the Turkish National Intelligence, CNN Turk channel reported.

Barak accused the newly appointed adviser to the Turkish National Intelligence Hakan Fidan in the pro-Iranian views, and expressed fears that he will transmit secret information to Tehran.

He said Fidan is secretly cooperating with the Iranian authorities, and can give them information of the Turkish intelligence concerning Israel.

As a sign of protest the Foreign Ministry demanded clarification from the Israeli ambassador.

Tensions between Turkey and Israel escalated following Israeli military attacks on the "Freedom of Flotilla" May 31. After the incident, Turkey recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv, and closed a military zone for Israeli fighters. Nine Turkish citizens died in the incident.

The Turkish Government has demanded Israel to apologize and compensate the survivors, as well as conducting international investigation under UN auspices.
