( dpa )- Lydia L, a 68-year-old former prostitute, went on trial in Germany Tuesday for ordering the murder of four of her husbands in succession.
Her assistant, Siggi S, 53, told a court in Goettingen in central Germany how, starting in 1994, he suffocated solitary old men whom she had befriended and married for the sake of their money.
Police did not notice the serial killings till S went to a police station and confessed. L, who appeared in court in wearing a gold chain, elegant suit and coiffed hair, refused to testify.
S, who was jointly charged, said she sent him out to buy sleeping pills so the men would be drugged and unable to resist when they were suffocated with a plastic bag or a pillow. He could not explain why he followed her orders.
The trial continues.
