( dpa ) - Former British prime minister Tony Blair has agreed to become a fellow at Yale University and will begin teaching there when the next academic year begins, the New Haven, Connecticut institution said Friday.

Blair will lead a seminar examining "issues of faith and globalization" in coordination with the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, which he plans to launch later this year.

"The appointment of Mr Blair provides a tremendous opportunity for our students and our community," Yale University President Richard Levin said.

Blair led Britain's Labour Party government from 1997-2007. He is currently a special envoy for the Middle East quartet, leading coordination of building a Palestinian economy. The quartet is a group of Middle East peace mediators consisting of the European Union, the United Nations, Russia and the United States.
