( dpa ) - Space shuttle Endeavour astronauts began a spacewalk late Saturday to assemble a Canadian robotic arm known as Dextre outside the International Space Station.
Crew members Richard Linnehan and Mike Foreman entered the void at 1149 GMT Saturday for a seven-hour effort to attach Dextre's two arms to its torso, according to US space agency NASA.
Dextre, a 300-million-dollar final extension to the existing robotic arm used outside the station, was brought up in pieces by Endeavour earlier this week, along with the first section of Japanese-made laboratory Kibo that was installed Friday.
Two further spacewalks are planned to complete assembly of the robotic arm.
