( dpa )- Hundreds of right-wing Israelis demonstrated Sunday night in the Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Jabil Mukaber, after failing to gain access to the house of a Palestinian gunman who killed eight Jews in a shooting attack on a religious seminary earlier this month.

Some 17 protesters were arrested, Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld told Deutsche Presse Agentur-dpa, and two people, a police officer and a protester, were injured.

He said the right-wingers, who had earlier announced their plans to march to the home of the gunman but were prevented from doing so, threw rocks at homes on the outskirts of the neighbourhood, and clashed with police.

The demonstrators, who included members of Israeli extremist anti- Arab organizations had earlier threatened to destroy the family home of Ala Abu Dhaim, who was shot dead after gunning down 8 students at a Jewish religious seminary in a West Jerusalem suburb on March 6.

Abu Dheim was buried in a private ceremony, but Israeli authorities continue to debate whether his family house should be demolished, as is the usual practice with the homes of Palestinians who murder Israelis.
