Further turmoil at South African LOC

( dpa ) - The head of IT at the South African local organizing committee (LOC) of the 2010 World Cup has been suspended, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The LOC head of communications and international relations Tumi Makgabo, who herself will be leaving the organization in June, said that Mnisi had been suspended with immediate effect.

She refused to comment on allegations that Mnisi had been suspended due to the misappropriation of funds.

The LOC chairman Irvin Khoza however confirmed that financial irregularities had surfaced during a forensic investigation.

Khoza said that they had accepted Mnisi's integrity "on face- value".

Mnisi's suspension is the latest controversy that has erupted within the LOC.

The head of human resources of the organization Nomzamo Kasana resigned before disciplinary action could be taken against her for alleged insubordination and incompetence.

Others who have left the LOC include the head of marketing Emy Casaletti, the head of the African Legacy Programme Eddie Maloka, as well as the head of LOC marketing of the world controlling body FIFA, Sandile Ndzekeli.
