Hard work for Hertha Berlin in cup win over lowly Trier

Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin had to fight hard for a 3-1 victory over fourth-division Eintracht Trier in the first round of the German Cup on Friday, dpa reported.

Marco Pantelic in the eighth minute, Fabian Lustenberger (60th) and Patrick Ebert (81) were on target for Berlin, with the home side levelling in the 26th minute through Kevin Lacroix.

Newly-promoted second-division side FSV Frankfurt also went through thanks to a 2-0 win over second-division rivals Osnabrueck.

Third-division Offenbach Kickers notched up a 1-0 win over second-division Greuther Fuerth.

On Thursday, first-division Cologne ran out 5-1 winners at fifth-division outfit SV Niederauerbach.

Most of the first-round matches are being played on Saturday and Sunday.
