Nine people, including a girl, were killed when a packed pickup truck fell into a ravine in Pakistani-administered Kashmir on Friday, police said.

The vehicle carrying at least 13 passengers veered off the mountain road near Khurshidabad area. Four injured people were taken to hospital in the nearby town of Kahuta in Pakistani territory, reported dpa.

It was not immediately known what caused the accident but police suspect that the truck's driver lost control after a fault in the steering mechanism.

Rocky tracks and poorly-maintained vehicles are described as common reasons for frequent road accidents in the mountain region.
