Police say an overcrowded boat carrying illegal migrants has capsized in a lake in southern Albania, killing a woman and her 3-month-old baby. Several people are missing, the associated press repoirted.
The boat was carrying up to 20 people when it sank at about 7:30 p.m. (1730 GMT), police spokesman Klodian Branko said.
Eight people, including the dead woman's husband, have been rescued and police are searching the area for more survivors.
Police said the boat was trying to illegally cross the border into neighboring Greece on Butrinti Lake, 330 kilometers ( 205 miles) south of the capital, Tirana. Authorities are investigating why the boat capsized.
