King Albert II Friday refused to accept the Belgian government's offer to resign over controversy related to the sale of a troubled bank, the news agency Belga reported.

Prime Minister Yves Leterme had offered his government's resignation over allegations it tried to prevent a court from blocking the sale of the country's troubled Fortis bank to BNP Paribas of France, dpa reported.

Albert was to hold political consultations on solution of the governance crisis in the European country.
