Thirteen people were injured, one of them seriously, after an individual fired haphazardly at the Nationalist Party club in a tranquil village in Malta Saturday night, dpa reported.
The sound of gunfire rattled the quiet village square of Mqabba just after 10 pm in an incident more reminiscent of the politically- turbulent 1980s Malta.
According to witnesses, the gunman had had an altercation with another individual inside the premises before the actual incident.
Prior to the shooting, police were informed of the altercation and two officers came to the club within minutes. The main door to the club was shut as the police realized the impending trouble.
Shortly afterwards, the aggressor returned and fired several shots with his shotgun, the pellets penetrating through the door and injuring people inside the club.
A woman, 33, was hit in the head and chest though her condition was described as not critical. Twelve others were also taken to hospital.
The shooter himself was wrestled to the ground by policemen and taken in custody.
