The state-run news agency says security services have killed three terrorists in western Algeria and seized several assault rifles along with explosive belts often used for suicide bombings, AP reported.

APS is reporting Sunday that the three men were shot overnight in the Relizane area 320 kilometers (199 miles) west of the capital, Algiers.

It did not specify the men's identities. Most Algerian militants belong to al-Qaida in Islamic North Africa, the local offshoot of Osama bin Laden's terrorist network.

The killings came after reports of several similar arrests or shootouts this week across the country. The Interior Ministry was not available for comment Sunday. There has been no major bombing in the North African country since August.
