Actor Patrick Swayze who is battling pancreatic cancer, checked himself into hospital on Friday after contracting pneumonia, dpa reported.
Officials for the A&E television network, for whom Swayze is filming the series The Beast, broke the news and said that it was a result of the immune deficiencies caused by the chemotherapy course that Swayze is undergoing.
"Patrick has asked that I tell you that this morning he checked himself into the hospital for observation," A&E President Robert DeBitetto said. "Chemotherapy can take its toll on the immune system, and illnesses are a part of that."
The hospitalization came just days after Swayze revealed in a TV interview that he was going through hell and that he didn't have very long to live.
"I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," the star of the movie Dirty Dancing said. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe the statistics.
"I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it. I keep my heart and soul and my spirit open to miracles. I pray."
