Barry Bonds's ex-mistress and a former teammate will testify that Bonds said he was taking steroids and his former personal assistant will testify that she saw his trainer giving him an injection, prosecutors said, Bloomberg reported.
Kimberly Bell, Bonds's ex-girlfriend, former San Francisco Giants player Bobby Estalella and Kathy Hoskins, a former personal shopper and assistant for Bonds, are among more than 25 witnesses government lawyers plan to call at his perjury trial starting March 2, according to a filing today in federal court in San Francisco.
Bell will testify that Bonds told her he was taking performance-enhancing drugs before the 2000 season and about changes in his body, including testicle shrinkage, that started in 2000, according to the filing. Estalella will testify that Bonds admitted using performance-enhancing drugs "and they had several discussion regarding that topic," prosecutors said.
Bonds, 44, faces 10 counts of lying to a grand jury about taking steroids and one count of obstructing a federal investigation. Major League Baseball's home run record holder says he never knowingly took steroids.
Hoskins will testify that she saw trainer Greg Anderson "giving the defendant an injection," prosecutors said. The filing doesn't say whether Hoskins knew what the injection was.
