16 Taliban fighters killed, 9 injured in W. Afghanistan

A clash between Afghan forces and Taliban militants left over a dozen insurgents dead in western Farah province, Deputy to Provincial Governor Mohammad Yunus Rasouli said Thursday, Xinhua reported.
  
"The clash erupted Wednesday when the militants attacked police in Balablok district and police with the support of army retaliated, killing 16 rebels and wounding nine others," Rasouli told Xinhua.
  
He also added that Mullah Nik Mohammad, a senior Taliban leader in the province, was among the killed rebels in the firefight.
  
Meantime, Taliban fighters have yet to make comment.
  
Security forces on Wednesday claimed killing a Taliban commander Mullah Mustafa in the northwest Ghor province but Mustafa rejected the claim saying he is alive.
  
Taliban fighters have vowed to speed up activities this year in Afghanistan.
