A suspected United States drone attack Sunday killed three people in a tribal area of Pakistan, Xinhua reported.

The drone fired missiles and hit the Laddha region of South Waziristan tribal area, the private Geo TV channel quoted a local administration official in Laddha Amir Mohammad Khan as saying.

"A drone attack targeting a militant vehicle killed three people in Mardar Algad area," said Amir Mohammad Khan, "There is a training camp close to this area."

Khan said that Taliban militants had surrounded the area of the attack and security forces were not able to gather any more information about the missile strike.

Pakistan's tribal regions adjacent to its western border with Afghanistan have witnessed suspected drone attacks. The Pakistani government has repeatedly protested against such attacks, terming them "counter-productive" in the fight against terrorism.
