A/H1N1 flu cases surge to 5,710 in Canada

The total of confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases in Canada has risen to 5,710, with 805 new cases added during the past two days, according to the latest figures released by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) Friday, Xinhua reported.

Another person has died of the virus, bringing the total victims of the flu in Canada to 13. This latest case involved a person from Ontario province with underlying medical conditions, provincial health officials said.

The number of patients that require hospitalization has increased to 349.

Ontario province is still the worst-hit, with 2,528 confirmed cases, followed by Quebec with 1,349.

The virus continues to spread quickly in the Nunavut Territory, an autonomous region for the Inuit people with a mere population of 30,000. It added 19 new cases during the past two days, bringing the total to 204.
