A soldier of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in south Afghanistan, a press release of the alliance said Sunday, Xinhua reported.

"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member was killed yesterday as a result of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) strike in southern Afghanistan," the press release added.

"We will honor his life by staying the course and fight the insurgents until security and hope are offered to the Afghan population," said Brigadier General Eric Tremblay, ISAF Spokesperson," the press release further said.

However, it did not identify the nationality of the killed soldier, adding it is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.

A U.S.-led major offensive against Taliban militants has been going on in the southern Helmand province since July 2 and so far scores of Taliban fighters and several foreign troopers have been killed.
