The total number of laboratory confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases has risen to 509 in Switzerland, the official Swissinfo.ch news website reported on Monday.
Twenty-five new cases were confirmed over the weekend, and they were recorded in cantons Geneva, Bern, Lucerne, Vaud and Valais respectively, the website quoted the Federal Health Office as saying, Xinhua reported.
Health officials said 301 people have been infected outside Switzerland and 93 inside the country. The remaining 115 cases are still under investigation.
The actual number of people infected with the H1N1 virus is higher than the number released by authorities, which reflects only the cases confirmed in laboratories, Swissinfo.ch said.
So far the pandemic has caused more than 800 deaths in the world, most of which occurred in the Americas, according to the World Health Organization.
The UN agency said there was still no signs of the virus mutating and becoming more fatal despite its fast spreading.
The Swiss authorities have estimated that up to 1.5 million people in the country -- a quarter of the work force -- could be infected with the virus by the end of the year.
The country has struck a deal with two international pharmaceutical companies for 13 million doses of vaccine to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
The vaccinations could be available by November and would probably be recommended for risk groups, but not be made mandatory, Swissinfo.ch reported.
