A suicide attacker blew himself up at an army checkpoint in northwest Pakistan, killing two security forces and wounding four people, a military source said, CNN reported.

The Saturday night attack, in Kohat district in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, came a day after a suicide car bomb exploded near a crowded market in the district, killing at least 39 people.

The earlier attack occurred at a village near Dara Adam Khel, the source said, asking not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

District people say the attack occurred shortly after 11 a.m. (1 a.m. ET) near the Kacha Pakha bazaar.

The target was a Shia Muslim neighborhood, and most of the victims were Shiite, said Ali Hassan of the district police. Another 54 were injured, also mostly Shia Muslims.
