President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders joined tens of thousands of people Thursday evening at a grand gala celebrating New China's 60th birthday, Xinhua reported.
  
Amid applause and cheers, the leaders walked into the joyous crowd, dancing with performers at the grand gala that had turned Tian'anmen Square a sea of festivity.
  
Top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao and all the other members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee overlooked the performances on Tian'anmen Rostrum with Hu.
  
Former President Jiang Zemin also attended the gala that began at 8 p.m..
  
The leaders descended the rostrum at about 9:20 p.m., when the gala was drawing to its end.
  
About 60,000 people dressed in festive costumes, including local residents, public servants, company staff, university students and servicemen, took part in the grand gala eulogizing their motherland's great development and unity among all ethnic groups.
