Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni is interested in coaching Nigeria at the World Cup finals later this year, the BBC reported on Saturday, dpa reported.
The BBC quotes Trapattoni's advisor Domenico Ricci as saying that the Italian coach had earlier turned down an offer to coach the Ivory Coast at the finals in South Africa.
"He refused an offer from Ivory Coast a week ago because they offered him only the World Cup," the BBC quotes Ricci.
"But also because I think he is more interested in Nigeria than Ivory Coast."
Nigeria fired coach Shaibu Amodu on February 6. It was the second time that Amodu has been fired after leading the Super Eagles to the finals of the World Cup.
Several other coaches, including Dutchman Guus Hiddink, who announced on Saturday that he would not be extending his contract as Russian coach, have been linked with the Nigeria job.
Trapattoni's contract with Ireland runs until the end of the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
Amongst the teams he has previously coached are Juventus, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Benfica Lisbon, as well as the Italian national side.
