Ibrahimovic repeats doubts about playing for Sweden

Barcelona forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic still has doubts about playing for Sweden, citing lack of motivation, DPA reported.

"If Sweden had been in the World Cup I would likely have played if I had been asked. But we are not in the World Cup," Ibrahimovic said in an email interview with the magazine Cafe published on Tuesday in several other Swedish media outlets.

"If you ask me after the summer and I feel like I do now, then I will not be in (the squad). I simply lack motivation."

Ibrahimovic announced a break from the national team in November, saying he lacked motivation to play for Sweden after it failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and there were no other important matches.

He was not named in Sweden coach Erik Hamren's latest squad announced a week ago for two upcoming friendlies.

Hamren has issued an August deadline for Ibrahimovic about his plans to play for the national side in the first Euro 2012 qualifying game in September.

In the Café interview, the Barcelona forward did not completely rule out a return. He said he needed "a break in order to regain motivation and enjoy playing. It was a wise and well-considered decision that was not easy to make."

He also said there was need to change Swedish football philosophy, saying it was necessary to give a greater role to talented players rather than focusing on the team or tactical systems.

Hamren was named successor to Lars Lagerback who stepped down in October after Sweden's failed qualifying campaign.
