At least 39 people have been killed and 73 injured in an explosion that occurred during a wedding dinner in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, Press TV reported.
Most of the victims were male as the explosion occurred when dinner was being served at the wedding, which was being held in the Arghanab district, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the city of Kandahar, AFP quoted an official as saying on Wednesday.
Ten children were among the wounded.
It is still not known what caused the devastating blast.
At least 39 bodies were brought to the Kandahar central hospital.
"We don't know how many more bodies remain at the site and we don't know if it was a suicide attack or a bomb or something else," said a senior official with the city administration at the hospital.
The death toll was one of the highest in a single incident in Afghanistan in recent months.
