Russia urges Kyrgyzstan to take measures to avoid further violence

A Russian presidential special envoy for relations with Kyrgyzstan urged the Kyrgyz interim government here Saturday to take measures to avoid repetition of the deadly violence which has killed at least 191 people and injured nearly 2,000 others in southern Kyrgyzstan, Xinhua reported.
  
At a press conference in Bishkek, Vladimir Rushaylo called on the Kyrgyz interim government to look into the roots for the latest violence and track down the criminals.
  
He also said that the Russian leaders were highly concerned with the developments in the Central Asian country. He ledged that Russia will continue to provide humanitarian aid for Kyrgyzstan citizens.
  
According to Rushaylo, Russia has provided a total of 120 tons of humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan, which were carried by three planes earlier this week.
  
Ethnic clashes broke out in mid-June in the southern major city of Osh and later spread to the region of Jalalabad. The official death toll stood at 191 as of Friday, but interim leader Roza Otunbayeva said during an inspection tour to Osh that the real number was likely 10 times higher, as many of the victims were buried quickly in keeping with local tradition.
