Two powerful blasts have injured at least 11 soldiers and two police officers near an army base in Lower Dir district in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, Press TV reported.

According to police officials, militants fired rockets on Bilambut military base and clashes broke out at the entrance of the base between army forces and unknown militants, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Clashes continued as wounded were transferred to a local hospital. Some of the injured are reportedly in critical conditions.

Security forces have cordoned off the area as police forces are probing the scene of the attack.

A new wave of violence has undermined security in Pakistan. Nearly 4,000 people have been killed in militant attacks throughout the militancy-crippled country since July 2007.
