Slovakia gets a new centre-right coalition government

Four centre-right parties signed a coalition agreement late Tuesday on the formation of a new Slovakian government, dpa reported.

"Slovakia will once again be a place where you can lead a dignified life," prime minister-in-waiting Iveta Radicova said, announcing one of her government's key promises.

She said the government would be "responsible and transparent" and that tackling corruption and curbing the budget deficit would be its main priorities.

With an eye on numerous previous government corruption scandals, Radicova promised a "zero tolerance" policy towards corruption.

"I've got the rudder firmly in hand," she said and told the media it must play its role as a "control mechanism" in politics.

The government is due to officially take up the reigns of power on Thursday.
