Two firefighters have been killed while battling forest fires in north-west Spain, the regional government in Galicia said Friday, dpa reported.
The deaths had happened late Thursday, though the exact circumstances were not yet known, the government said.
Firefighters had not at first thought the fires were particularly dangerous, but the wind repeatedly changed direction, leaving both men surrounded by flames, the newspaper La Voz de Galicia reported.
Inhabitants from one village were evacuated as a precaution.
