An Israeli citizen suspected in at least five recent killings was arraigned Friday on charges of one murder in the US state of Michigan, dpa reported according to the Detroit Free Press.

Charges in the other cases are yet to be filed, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton was quoted as saying.

Elias Abuelazam, 33, was arrested earlier this month in the US state of Georgia while trying to board a Delta Air Lines flight to Tel Aviv.

He is suspected of killing at least five people since May and attacking more than a dozen others. He reportedly singled out mostly people with dark skin and is suspected to have carried out knife, hammer and other attacks in Michigan, Ohio and Virginia.

The violent spree began in Flint, Michigan, where at least 16 people have been attacked since May, including the five killed in Flint.

Stabbing survivors including Etwan Wilson, age 17, were outside the courtroom in Flint, where Abuelazam was arraigned via video camera from the local jail.

Wilson showed a long scar on his chest from where doctors had to perform surgery to repair his lung, liver and heart after the knife attack.

"I want to know why," Wilson was quoted as saying. "What was he thinking? What was in his mind?"

Many of the victims told police that they were attacked after the suspect asked them for help.
