Atletico Madrid announce sale of Jurado to Schalke

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo confirmed early Tuesday that midfielder Jose Manuel Jurado was to be sold to Bundesliga club Schalke 04, dpa reported.

Speaking after Atletico's 4-0 thrashing of Sporting Gijon late Monday - in which Jurado scored the first goal - Cerezo said: "The departure of Jurado is very advanced. In a few hours we will make it official."

According to media reports, Schalke will pay around 11 million euros (14.04 million dollars) for the 24-year-old.

Minutes later, Atletico coach Quique Sanchez Flores said: "Football is like that, sometimes offers which cannot be refused arrive, for clubs and players. ... Jurado is happy because he has said goodbye properly to his fans, and he has played a very good match."

Jurado will be the eight player this summer to leave Atletico, after Pablo Ibanez, Mariano Pernia, Roberto Jimenez, Eduardo Salvio, Leandro Cabrera, Ibrahima Balde and Ruben Perez.

Jurado joined Atletico in 2006 from neighbours Real Madrid, where he was given few chances. Two years ago, he was loaned out to Mallorca, where his career blossomed.

At Schalke he will link up with former Real and Spain captain Raul, now aged 33
