Five men have been arrested in connection with a suspected plot to harm Pope Benedict XVI during his current state visit to Britain, Scotland Yard said Friday, DPA reported.

A spokesman said the men, aged between 26 and 50, were detained by counter-terrorism officers in London who had "received intelligence information of a potential threat."

The men were being questioned by police, as searches were under way at premises linked to the raid in north and east London.
