The US Navy ordered 124 new jet fighters from the aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co, the firm said, DPA reported.
Tuesday's contract is worth 5.3 billion dollars with delivery set for 2012-15.
The commitment is for 66 Super Hornets, which are already in use in combat, including the war in Afghanistan, and 58 of Boeing's new Growlers.
